Step 1: Pick the apps that eat your time
Choose them with Apple's Screen Time picker. Toll never sees which apps they are.

Start with a ready-made deck, write your own cards, or import them from Anki or Quizlet.

Step 3: Pay a 3-question toll to get in
Open a tolled app and Toll's screen appears. Tap "Pay the toll", answer 3 questions, and you're in for 15 minutes.
Blockers take your apps away. Toll charges a fee, paid in things you actually want to know.

What is Toll?
Toll is an app blocker for iPhone that makes you learn. Before an app you've put a toll on will open, you answer 3 quick flashcard questions from a deck you choose.
How does Toll work?
You pick apps with Apple's Screen Time picker, and opening one of them shows Toll's screen instead. Tap "Pay the toll", answer 3 questions and you're in for 15 minutes, or any time you choose from 1 to 60. Spaced repetition picks the questions, so each one is a review you were due anyway.
Which apps can I put a toll on?
Any app you choose, such as Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. We suggest leaving messaging, maps and banking alone, so they're always one tap away.
What if I really need to get into an app?
You'll always get in. You have 2 free passes a day that skip the questions, and if you get 3 answers wrong in a row, Toll shows you the answers and lets you in after 60 seconds. A single wrong answer just shows you the right one and gives you another question.
What can I learn with Toll?
Anything that fits on a flashcard. Toll comes with starter decks for world capitals, Spanish words and UK driving theory basics, and you can write your own cards or import CSV and TSV files exported from Anki or Quizlet. Cards can be multiple choice or typed answers, and AI-made cards are coming during the beta.
Does Toll see what I do on my phone?
No: Apple's Screen Time keeps your app choices on your phone and gives Toll anonymous tokens instead of app names, so Toll never sees which apps you use. Your decks and review history stay on your iPhone too, and during the beta we collect only anonymous usage events, never the content of your cards.
What do I need?
An iPhone on iOS 26.5 or later and Apple's free TestFlight app. To check your version, open Settings → General → About.
How much does it cost?
Toll is free during the beta. You install it through Apple's free TestFlight app, and there's nothing to pay.
How is Toll different from app blockers like Opal or one sec?
Opal and one sec slow you down; Toll slows you down and teaches you something. Opal blocks apps on a schedule, and one sec adds a breathing pause before an app opens. Toll's pause is 3 flashcard questions from your own deck, so the friction turns into learning.
How is it different from Anki or Quizlet?
Anki and Quizlet are flashcard apps you open to study; Toll brings your reviews to the apps you already open. Plenty of people pair a flashcard app with a separate blocker, and in Toll that pairing is the product. You can import your Anki or Quizlet cards as CSV or TSV files.
When can I get it?
As soon as your invite arrives: we're sending TestFlight invites to the waitlist in small batches. Toll isn't on the App Store yet, so joining the waitlist is the way in.
